The Coastal Georgia Nurse Honor Guard is a group of local volunteer nurses, both active and retired. The group pays tribute to all nurses who have dedicated their lives to the nursing profession with compassion, respect, and deep appreciation.
We operate under the guidance of the National Nurse Honor Guard Coalition. We are a chapter of the Georgia Nurse Honor Guard, and cover Chatham, Bryan, and Effingham counties.
We honor nurses at the time of their death by performing the Nightingale Tribute, symbolically releasing them of their nursing duties. The tribute can be held at funerals, gravesites, memorials, or celebration of life.
We also offer honorary legacy tributes to recognize nurses' monumental moments such as retirement, birthdays, and nearing the end of life.
All services are provided at no cost and are made possible through the dedication of our members and the support of our community.
Final Call to Duty
During the Final Call to Duty, the Nightingale Lamp is lit in the nurse's honor, and the nurse's name is called out as a request to report for duty. After the third and final call, the nurse is relieved of their duty and the lamp's flame is extinguished.
This is the final call for those who have served selflessly and given their lives for the good of their fellow man; their duties are done, their tasks are complete, they are going home.
